War 2 teaser out: Check plot, cast, release date of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's upcoming action thriller

Something seismic is brewing in Bollywood, and it just dropped a fiery teaser. Two of Indian cinema’s biggest powerhouses, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, are finally gearing up for a head-on collision, and the result promises to be nothing short of explosive. With YRF’s War 2 now officially unveiled, fans are strapping in for what’s already being hailed as the cinematic event of 2025.

A birthday bombshell

On the occasion of Jr NTR’s birthday, Yash Raj Films dropped the much-anticipated War 2 teaser, a slick, high-octane preview of a film that promises to push every limit. Clocking in at 1 minute and 34 seconds, the teaser brings back Hrithik Roshan as the enigmatic Agent Kabir, and this time, he’s bulkier, broodier, and far more dangerous. From gritty hand-to-hand combat to battling a wolf, and from sword fights to heart-pounding car chases, Kabir isn’t just back, he’s unleashed.

Sharing the teaser on X, Hrithik Roshan stayed in character and wrote: “And so it begins, @tarak9999. Be prepared, there is no place for mercy. Welcome to Hell. Love, Kabir.”


To which Jr NTR, making his grand Bollywood debut as the antagonist, replied: “Mercy doesn’t exist where I come from, Kabir. I am ready for the WAR, Hrithik sir!!!”

About the Teaser

The teaser kicks off with a chilling voiceover from Jr NTR’s character, a shadowy antagonist who seems to have been tracking Kabir for a while. He speaks with quiet menace, referring to Kabir as India’s former top soldier and RAW’s best agent, emphasising that those titles no longer apply. What follows is a rapid-fire montage of explosive action sequences: intense fights aboard a speeding train, edge-of-the-seat combat inside a plane, boat chases through turbulent waters, and a face-off in an ice cave. The promo ends on a high with a brief but electrifying glimpse of Kabir and the mysterious new villain locked in a brutal fistfight, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown.

Spy universe showdown

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the sixth instalment in the ever-expanding YRF Spy Universe, following the likes of Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3. However, insiders claim War 2 is by far the most ambitious yet, both in scale and storytelling. It doesn’t just continue the franchise, it elevates it. The film has been shot over 150 days across exotic locations including Spain, Italy, Abu Dhabi, Japan, Russia and India, offering a globe-trotting espionage thrill ride rarely seen in Indian cinema.

Jr NTR as antagonist?

In perhaps the most buzzworthy casting choice of the year, Jr NTR plays the film’s antagonist, one with a morally grey and layered character arc. This isn’t a typical villain role. It's a complex, high-impact character designed to showcase the actor’s intensity in a completely new light. His ideological clash with Kabir forms the emotional and dramatic core of the film.

War 2 release date

War 2 is slated for release on August 14, 2025, and will hit theatres in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. With Jr NTR’s powerful entry into Bollywood and Hrithik Roshan returning in peak form, the countdown has officially begun.
