Promoter Ownership
A decline in promoter ownership for the third quarter in a row to 50.1% in NSE listed companies in Mar’25;

FPI Ownership
A slight increase in FPI (foreign portfolio investors) ownership from 13-year lows in Dec’24 to 17.5%/18.5% in the listed/Nifty 500 companies, party attributed to a rally in private banks where FPIs have a large exposure.

Mutual funds Ownership
An increase in DMF (domestic mutual funds) share to a fresh record high of 10.4%, thanks to sustained buying aided by steady SIP inflows; Including Insurance, Banks and other institutions, domestic institutions now own more than FPIs for the first time since 2003

Individual investors
A dip in direct ownership of individual investors to 9.5% in the listed universe; Individuals, both directly and through mutual funds, now own a record-high 18.2% of the market. Our estimates point to a net accretion of over Rs 46 lakh crore to household wealth in Indian equities in the past five fiscal years, with current holding at Rs 74.5 lakh crore (5Y/15Y CAGR: +16.9%/35.7%)

Sectoral Shifts
FPIs strengthened their outsized ownership bet on Financials, turned incrementally positive on Communication Services, maintained caution on consumption and commodity sectors namely Consumer Staples, Energy and Materials, and maintained a negative stance on Industrials.
