US President Donald Trump confirmed that Iran had responded to Washington's attack on Tehran's nuclear facilities on Monday, saying that 14 missiles were fired, out of which 13 were knocked down and one was headed in a non-threatening direction.

Trump added that no Americans were harmed in the response and said that there was hardly any damage done. The US president said Iran had got it out of their systems and hoped for peace.

He also said that he would encourage both Iran and Israel to maintain peace.

"Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered. There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and 1 was “set free,” because it was headed in a nonthreatening direction. I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done. Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their “system,” and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE. I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured. Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump posted on Truth Social.

In a separate post, Trump thanked the Emir of Qatar for seeking to maintain peace in the region. He said he no Americans or Qataris were killed or wounded by Iran's missiles.

"I’d like to thank the Highly Respected Emir of Qatar for all that he has done in seeking Peace for the Region. Regarding the attack today at the American Base in Qatar, I am pleased to report that, in addition to no Americans being killed or wounded, very importantly, there have also been no Qataris killed or wounded. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump said.

Earlier on Monday, Iran launched missiles towards the US' Al-Udeid base in Qatar, Iranian armed forces said in a statement, adding that "they will not leave any attack on Iranian territory go unanswered under any circumstances".

Iran's top security body said armed forces used the same number of bombs that the US had used in attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The Iranian armed forces said that US' regional bases are a "major weakness and a thorn in the side of US war-mongering regime."

The attack came shortly after Qatar closed its airspace as a precaution amid threats from Iran.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reported that Qatar air defences intercepted a missile attack on US military base Al Udeid, while it said it reserves right to respond after Iranian attack on US military base in Doha.
