Jennifer Aniston’s alleged stalker reaches court shirtless; mental evaluation ordered

A man accused of stalking Jennifer Aniston and crashing his car through the gates of her Bel Air home appeared in Los Angeles court on Thursday. Wrapped in a blanket, the defendant did not have a shirt on. A judge had him ordered for a mental health evaluation to decide if he was competent to face charges of felony stalking and vandalism.

Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, aged 48, from Mississippi’s New Albany, appeared behind glass in the custody section of the court. During the hearing, he remained silent and did not enter a plea.

Man accused of crashing into Aniston’s Bel Air home

As per the Associated Press report, Carwyle has been harassing Aniston by sending her voicemails, emails, and social media messages for over two years, before driving his Chrysler PT Cruiser into the actor’s front gate on Monday.

Reportedly, LA Superior Court Judge Keith L Schwartz expressed doubt that Carwyle understood legal proceedings and ordered to move the case to mental health court.

Aniston was home at the time of vandalism incident

The prosecutors requested a no-contact order, which was granted by the judge in spite of Carwyle’s defender Toral Malik suggesting it was unnecessary. Malik pointed out that it would be difficult for him to avoid Aniston. Judge Schwartz, however, was certain that the defender was not permitted to communicate with Aniston in any way.

As per the prosecutors, Aniston, aged 56, was home when the incident occurred. A security guard, they said, intervened in the driveway and stopped Carwyle before he was arrested by the police. No injuries were reported but the crash caused significant damage to the property.

Carwyle faces felony stalking, vandalism charges

The defendant is facing felony stalking and vandalism charges, in addition to an aggravating circumstance for posing the threat of great bodily harm. If convicted, Carwyle might spend over three years behind bars.

Neither Aniston's lawyers nor her reps, who were present during the hearing, commented on the case. The actor, who is known for her Emmy-winning role as Rachel Green on Friends, is currently starring in Apple TV+’s The Morning Show. She had purchased the Bel Air mansion in 2021 for around $21 million.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman released a statement saying stalking is a crime which quickly escalates from harassment to fatal violence. His office, he said, is committed to aggressively prosecute people found guilty of stalking.

Aniston, unharmed, has faced past stalking incidents

This is not the first time that Aniston has had such a problem. She got a restraining order in 2010 against a man who thought he was in a love relationship with her.

Carwyle is being held in jail as the mental health assessment continues. He is scheduled to return to court after the evaluation to see if he can stand trial.
