New Delhi: Indian engineering goods exports started the new fiscal 2025-26 on a strong note and clocked 11.28% year-on-year growth in April with shipments to key markets such as the US, UAE, UK, Singapore, Brazil and Australia witnessing high double-digit growth.

Engineering goods exports to the US grew 17% year-on-year to US$1.66 billion in April this year compared to US$1.42 billion in the corresponding month last year.

Shipments to the UAE jumped 37.3% to US$538.8 million in April 2025 as against US$392.5 million in April 2024.

Engineering exports to some of the major markets, such as China, Turkey, Mexico, and Italy, however, registered negative year-on-year growth in April this year.

The value of engineering goods exports to China stood at US$164.8 million in April 2025, down 21.7% as compared to US$210.5 million in the corresponding month last year.

During April 2025, engineering exports from India were recorded at US$9.51 billion as against US$8.55 billion in the same month last fiscal.

The double-digit growth in engineering goods exports in April this year could be attributed to a lower base coupled with higher exports of electric machinery and equipment, ships, boats, and floating structures, motor vehicles/cars, and copper and its products, among others. Exports of iron and steel also came back to the growth path after several months. Increase in shipments to all regions, barring Other Europe and CIS, helped overall engineering exports to start the new fiscal with a positive sentiment.

The stellar export performance has come at a time when geopolitical transformation is reshaping global trade dynamics.

Pankaj Chadha, Chairman, EEPC India, said, in a statement, "That our exporters have achieved the growth despite multiple global challenges is indeed laudable. The support of the Government of India remains critical during such difficult times. The recently concluded India-UK Free Trade Agreement is an important step towards strengthening our position in the UK market. We sincerely hope that in the coming days we will continue in this growth path."

According to the Quick Estimates of the Department of Commerce, Government of India, the share of engineering goods in India's total merchandise exports was recorded at 24.71% in April 2025 as against 24.21% in April 2024.

In April 2025, as many as 28 out of 34 engineering panels witnessed positive year-on-year growth, while the remaining 6 panels, mainly including aluminium and products, zinc and products, aircraft and spacecrafts, railway and transport equipment, and cranes, lifts & winches, witnessed decline.

Region-wise, North America maintained its spot as the number one export destination with a share of 21.1%, followed by the European Union (17.4%) and West Asia and North Africa (14.1%) in April 2025. Significant export growth was noted in Oceania (36.4%), Sub-Saharan Africa (31.6%), and Latin America (27.2%) in April 2025.
