Solar Industries shares surged 2% to a fresh 52-week high of Rs 13,934.90 on the BSE after the government confirmed the use of Nagastra drones in Operation Sindoor. The operation, which targeted air force bases, prominently featured loitering munitions such as Nagastra drones and Warmate.

Nagpur-based Solar Industries, in collaboration with Bengaluru-based ZMotion, has developed the Nagastra drones, which have gained attention for their precision strike capabilities.

The Indian Army had received its first batch of Nagastra-1 drones earlier in June 2024, marking a significant milestone in India's defense manufacturing sector. The drones are positioned as loitering munitions and are designed to neutralize hostile targets using GPS-enabled precision strikes in Kamikaze mode, with an accuracy margin of two metres.

The drones are capable of hovering over designated targets and can abort attacks on command, allowing for safe recovery through a parachute recovery system. This feature enables the weapon to be retrieved and reused if the attack is not executed.

Additionally, the man-in-loop range of the fixed-wing electric UAV is 15 km, while its autonomous mode range extends up to 30 km. With a flight endurance of 60 minutes, the UAV can remain operational for extended missions.

The UAV’s operational capabilities include hovering over targets, launching precision strikes, and conducting kamikaze-style attacks, making it a highly versatile combat tool. Mounted atop a UAV capable of reaching altitudes above 4,500 metres, the weapon is designed to remain undetectable to radar systems.

For instance, the drone can hover and launch attacks at specific times, targeting convoys or moving vehicles with precision strikes.

Constructed with over 75% indigenous materials, Nagastra-1 is a man-portable system weighing 30 kg, developed in partnership with Z-Motion Autonomous Systems, Bengaluru. The UAV's design allows it to abort, recover, and reuse munitions, offering a strategic advantage in warfare scenarios.
