At around 8:55 AM, an (SUV) crashed through the outer railing and walkway and slammed into the entrance of the Departure Area causing the NAIA terminal 1 accident.
An SUV collided with the entrance of Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday(May 4), resulting in the deaths of a 4-year-old girl and a man. The crash happened near the departure entrance area of Terminal 1 and has left several others injured, who are currently receiving medical treatment, according to the Philippine Red Cross. The vehicle's driver is in police custody, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Images and videos shared on social media depicted the chaotic aftermath, showing injured individuals on the ground, shattered glass, and significant damage to the SUV that struck the airport entrance.
The airport's operator, New NAIA Infra Corp., said it understands the concern this incident has caused, especially as images have circulated on social media. They urged the public not to speculate and to wait for verified updates, which will be issued as soon as they become available.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon reported that three individuals were injured and transported to San Juan de Dios Hospital, adding, "Three were injured and brought to San Juan de Dios Hospital. I think they are okay based on the initial report."
San Miguel Corp. President and CEO Ramon Ang, who also chairs the NAIA Infra Corp., was present at the scene and committed to personally bearing the medical expenses of those injured in the vehicular crash.
The Philippine Red Cross deployed 18 volunteers and five ambulances to respond to the crash, including a rescue vehicle for potential extrication operations. The organization stated, "The incident tragically resulted in the casualties of two individuals – a male adult and a 4-year-old girl."
Authorities said they continue to investigate the cause of the incident, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
