A leopard attacked a man at a brick kiln in the Lakhimpur Kheri district. The incident occurred on Monday at a kiln in Jugunpur village, under the Dhaurahara forest range. Mihilal, 35, a resident of Girdhari Purwa, was working at the kiln when the leopard, hiding in a chimney, suddenly attacked him.Instead of running away, Mihilal fought the leopard. Villagers working nearby noticed the attack and threw bricks and stones at the animal. This forced the leopard to release Mihilal and flee into a nearby banana field. “The leopard attacked a man at a brick kiln,” said Regional Forest Officer Nripendra Chaturvedi.

Forest team injured in second attack

Villagers informed the forest department about the incident. When the forest team approached the banana field to locate the animal, the injured leopard attacked again. Forest Ranger Rajesh Kumar Dixit, Ranger Nripendra Chaturvedi, police officer Ram Sajivan, and a villager named Iqbal Khan were injured during this second encounter.

    Injured sent for treatment

Mihilal, Iqbal Khan, and Forest Ranger Rajesh Dixit were referred to Lakhimpur for further treatment. Ranger Chaturvedi and constable Ram Sajivan received treatment at the local hospital and were later discharged.

    Leopard captured after tranquilisation

After the attacks, the forest department team returned with Police Inspector Suresh Kumar Mishra, CO Shamsher Bahadur Singh, and additional police force. They surrounded the area where the leopard was hiding. Forest officials then tranquilized and captured the animal.

“The leopard's attack injured the forest ranger, forest guard, the man, and four to five other people,” said Chaturvedi.
