US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he is "not in a rush" to take military action against Iran's nuclear facilities but did not confirm a New York Times report that he had intervened to prevent an Israeli strike.
"I wouldn't say 'waved off,'" he said, in reference to the Times report that he told the Israelis he would not support strikes.
"I'm not in a rush to do it because I think that Iran has a chance to have a great country," he added. "That's my first option. If there's a second option, I think it would be very bad for Iran and I think Iran is wanting to talk. I hope they're wanting to talk."

Hundreds of students streamed away from the direction of the student union. Students were glued to their phones, some visibly emotional, while others hugged each other. Dozens gathered near the music school waiting for news.
Junior Joshua Sirmans, 20, was in the university’s main library when he said alarms began going off warning of an active shooter. Law enforcement officers escorted him and other students out of the library with their hands over their heads, he said.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a social media post that the Justice Department is in touch with FBI agents who are on the scene.
Students and faculty were instructed to seek shelter and await further instructions.
“Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures,” the alert said.

Supreme Court has allowed the teachers whose appointments have been cancelled due to the irregularities in the recruitment process, to continue until the fresh selection process is completed.
A bench led by CJI Sanjiv Khanna, however, clarified that the aforesaid relief is only for the teachers whose appointments were “untainted”.
The top court also refused to grant the relief to continue service to the teaching staff falling under Group C and D, stating that the number of “tainted” candidates in those categories are higher.
The top court also directed the West Bengal government and the WB Staff Selection Commission to issue advertisements for fresh recruitment of assistant teachers by May 31 and to complete the entire process by December 31.
